As one of the key figures in the Pop Art era, Johnson is known as the founding father of mail art and as extraordinary collages. But, overshadowed by those like Warhol who manipulated the world in a very different way, was also an enigmatic and sometimes lonely figure who has been called the most famous unknown artist from New York, but challenged the commercial and critical establishment.
